2023 Million Dollar Bike Ride

The Penn Medicine Orphan Disease Center will host the 10th Annual Million Dollar Bike Ride on Saturday, June 10, 2023. The event will be in person this year but virtual riders are invited to participate from their own communities.  We are thrilled to have team NEHI Warrior participating for the 5th year in a row! Through this amazing partnership we have been able to support over $332,000 in pilot grants for medical research focused on NEHI. We look forward to raising awareness, supporting research, and coming together as a team with NEHI families worldwide! We have answered some commonly asked questions below. For additional questions or help reach out to carly@nehiresearch.org.

Why are we participating in the MDBR for the 5th year?

This event is one-of-a-kind and provides opportunities we otherwise would not have.  The Penn Orphan Disease Center (ODC) partners with 30+ rare disease organizations through the MDBR. We set the parameters for the NEHI grant but the ODC truly does all the work with no overhead taken out. They distribute the call for proposals worldwide, ensuring we find the absolute best applicants.  In addition to all the wonderful work they do on our behalf they also match, dollar for dollar, up to $30,000!

Take a look at our participation in the last four Million Dollar Bike Ride Events in 2019, 20202021, and 2022.

When and where is the event?

The MDBR is held in Philadelphia and riders commit to ride 10, 32, or 70 miles. Riders are also invited to join as a virtual rider for free and ride in their own communities. The 2023 MDBR will take place on June 10th.

Want to participate but not a biker?

No problem! The MDBR is a chance to raise awareness for NEHI and support promising research. We have had teammates run, walk, bike, and even do scavenger hunts.  Joining as a virtual rider means you can participate however best fits your family.

How do I register for team NEHI Warrior?

You will register through the Penn Orphan Disease Center’s website.  Riders joining us in person will pay a $30 registration fee and commit to raising $250 on their page from friends and family.  Virtual riders can register for free. The more registered riders we have the more awareness we raise and the better chance we have to be asked back again next year.  We have registration instructions available on our website or you can email carly@nehirearch.org for assistance.

Should I choose fundraising or non-fundraising rider?

If you are going to join us in Philadelphia for the event then you will want to choose “in-person rider” when given the option. By committing to fundraising $250 or more your registration fee is lowest. Raising the $250 is easy using your fundraising page and tools such as social media to share your story and ask for support from friends, co-workers, and family.  There is also an option to ride without fundraising available.  Make sure to choose our team “NEHI Warrior.”

If joining us from home as a virtual rider please select "virtual rider" for free registration. You can, and are encouraged to, set up a fundraising page just the same.

I’m officially on team NEHI Warrior. Now what?

We want to make sure you have some awesome gear to show team unity and raise awareness for NEHI.  Set up your fundraising page as detailed in the registration instructions. In person riders will receive shirts and virtual riders who raise at least $100 will be sent a shirt for themselves and up to two additional family members.
